Rome - Danger Mouse & Danielle Lupa album review
Review submitted by The Den 20th June 2011
Rating: 3.5 stars
If this is the
soundtrack for an unmade movie then Danger Mouse (Brian Burton) and
cohort Danielle Luppi are the Cohen brothers of this unrealised
cinematic classic. Instead of the Johnny Depp and Angelina Jolie pairing that
didn't work their stars here are Jack White
and Norah Jones, a match made in heaven. They fit the tunes as much as
the tunes fit them.
A combination of instrumental and vocal tracks create a mood of Italian
cinema from the 60's , paying special homage to Serge Leone (director of
the Clint Eastwood "dollar movies" of the period). The opening "Theme
from Rome" sets the mood for an imaginary trip to
the eternal city of a past age. The standout track for me is the Jack
White "Two Against One", an absolute killer .
Final say: Open a Peroni beer and enjoy.
