Rating: (** 2.5 stars)
The Strokes'
first album in 5 years was highly anticipated. After a number of false
starts and solo efforts over the last half decade it was now time to
deliver. And what did we get? A Strokes record that sounded like the
previous ones without anything standing out to make it worth the wait.
This is by no means a bad album, its just so ordinary, given the time it
has taken to get here. Highlights (of which there are few) include the
opener "Machu Picchu" and "Taken For A Fool". I expected better from the
band who gave us the best debut record of the millennium. The nicest
thing I can say is that it is solid but unexceptional.
Final Word: If it takes another 5 years for the next one, PLEASE
come up with something better.
